FAQ on Cat Proof Window Grilles
1. Are cat proof window grilles allowed in HDB flats?
Yes. In general, the HDB regulation that applies to normal window grilles also apply to cat proof window grilles. The cat grilles should be installed inside the flat (not outside). Also, if there is no existing glass window (for example, at the service yard), HDB permit application will be required before installation of the grilles.
2. What gap spacing is safe for cats?
If the cat’s head does not fit through the gap, its body usually cannot not go through either. In general, gap spacing of 1.5 to 2 inch is suitable for cats. It is also the smallest spacing that we are able to fabricate for the grilles. However young kittens may be able to squeeze through, so for extra safety it is still best to keep the windows closed or keep kittens away from open windows.
